Estes Park

David and I like traditions. I personally really like the predictableness (is that a word?) of traditions. We like having waffles together on Saturday mornings (now if he’ll just wake up, I can go make some!), we like having dinner with his parents on Sunday evenings, we like skiing together every other Monday in the winter, we like taking a long weekend away camping over 4th of July and we really like staying the weekend in Estes Park in the winter!

For the past 3 years, we’ve been heading up to Estes for a weekend to get away in the dead of winter. It started when I photographed a wedding up there in March of 2009. We stayed the night at this adorable little condo on the river, enjoyed a yummy breakfast and a day of snowshoeing in RMNP. It was so much fun, we decided to do it every year! Plus, in the winter, you can get really good deals on everything!

We had a great time this year! We stayed at our favorite little condo on the river, had an amazing romantic dinner at the Dunraven Inn, snowshoed up in RMNP and had an absolute blast together. It is so nice to just get away for a weekend! I love that David and I travel so well together, it makes our time together so fun! I’m so blessed to have such an adventurous, easy going, fun husband!

Here are a few pics!

Look at how much snow there was! In the summer, this sign comes up to my shoulder! Please ignore my oversized coat. I forgot mine, so David let me use his XXL, it practically came to my knees!
You can’t tell how steep this is, but it was STEEP!
We had The Loch all to ourselves, it was soooo beautiful!

It snowed about 3 inches overnight, very pretty in the morning!
Fall River, in front of our condo
 Our cute little place!
We hiked up to Chasm Falls on Sunday, it was beautiful in the winter!
If you’re interested, here are a few of our “favorites” in Estes:
The Woodlands on Fall River (Nice condos and they rent snowshoes for $5 if you don’t own your own)
The Other Side– best breakfast!
RMNP Snowshoeing- The Loch, Mills Lake, Emerald Lake or anything else from the Bear Lake or Glacier Gorge Trailheads!
I can’t wait to go again next year!

  1. Great pictures! Looks like a ton of fun!! Caleb and I used to have that tradition too (spending some time in Estes in the winter) but it's been a little more difficult over the last couple of years. 😉
