That’s right, we finally have a yard! This was the final major step in getting our house all finished up. Thankfully, front and back yard landscaping was a free incentive at the time we signed our contract on our house. Hooray for not having to install our own sprinkler system or dig giant holes for trees (I don’t mind getting my hands dirty, but I think I’ll let someone else dig the holes in my front yard).
I’m not 100% sure, what everything is, but I know we have a Newport Plum tree in the front, which I LOVE because the leaves are this beautiful well….plum color, so pretty! We have a Sugar Maple tree in the back yard and then we have some pretty dwarf burning bushes in the front, which also have a pretty plum color to them. In the back we have 2 Minnesota Snowflake shrubs, which will have big beautiful white blossoms on them when they are a little bit older. I can’t wait to see that!
There’s still quite a bit we want to do, like add a walkway on the side of the house and clear some space for a garden. But those things will have to wait for a while since pretty much all of our money is going to my good friends at the IRS this year (Gah! I’m still upset about that one…).
It’s funny how having a yard has made this whole home ownership thing really sink in. Suddenly, we have grass to mow, weeds to pull, bushes to trim and flowers to plant. Something about having a yard made me feel like “wow, this is really real. We really actually own a home and we’re responsible for everything that happens to it!” Crazy how something like grass can do that.
